Bathroom Remodeling

Bathroom Remodeling built by Greg

A bathroom usually gets remodeled for one of two reasons. Either it still looks like the year the house was built, or something has started to fail: a soft spot by the toilet, grout that never looks clean, a fan that does nothing, paint peeling off the ceiling. In a damp climate those small signs often mean water is getting where it should not. A good bath remodel looks better when it is done, but its real job is keeping water inside the shower and out of the floor and walls.

Greg Myers is a licensed, bonded and insured general contractor with 33 years of experience, and he treats a bathroom as a structural job as much as a finish job. His recent remodel work includes a tiled tub surround with new flooring and tongue-and-groove wainscot, and he built a live-edge wood vanity with vessel sinks into a lodge-style home. He handles demolition, subfloor and framing repair, plumbing, waterproofing, tile, vanities, lighting, the exhaust fan and trim himself, so one person is responsible for every layer.

What's included

Bathroom Remodeling: what's included

  • 01

    Tile showers and tub surrounds

Tiled walk-in showers and tub surrounds built over a fully waterproofed backer, with niches and benches where they fit.

  • 02

    Tub-to-shower conversions

Swapping an old tub nobody uses for a walk-in shower, with the drain and valve moved to suit the new layout.

  • 03

    Vanities, sinks and fixtures

Single or double vanities, vessel sinks or a live-edge wood top if you want one, plus faucets, toilets, mirrors and storage.

  • 04

    Subfloor and rot repair

Cutting out soft subfloor and rotted framing around the toilet and tub so the new floor sits on solid wood.

  • 05

    Exhaust fans and lighting

A properly sized fan ducted to the outside, plus vanity and ceiling lights and the outlets you need.

  • 06

    Easier-access bathrooms

Low-threshold or curbless showers, blocking for grab bars and wider doorways for a bathroom that works for the long haul.

Questions

Bathroom Remodeling FAQs

How much does a bathroom remodel cost?

It depends on the size of the room, whether fixtures move, and the tile and fixtures you choose. A custom tiled walk-in shower takes more work than a tub surround, and hidden rot under the floor adds to the job when it is there. Greg gives a free on-site estimate and explains what is driving the number.

Why do bathrooms in Western Washington rot out?

Mostly from moisture that never leaves. Months of cool, damp weather mean a weak fan lets steam soak into walls and ceilings, and a small leak at a tub or toilet can rot the subfloor for years before it shows. We fix the cause with real waterproofing and a fan vented outside, not just the damage you can see.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

A straight swap of fixtures and finishes goes faster than a remodel that moves plumbing or builds a custom tile shower, and Greg gives you a schedule with the estimate. Ordering tile and fixtures before demolition keeps the bathroom out of service for as short a time as possible.

Can you turn our tub into a walk-in shower?

Yes, it is one of the most common bathroom requests. We remove the tub, rework the drain and valve, waterproof the new shower, and tile it with a low curb or a curbless entry where the floor framing allows.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?

Often, yes, especially when plumbing, wiring or walls change. Greg pulls the permit through your county or city and schedules the inspections, so the work is on record when you sell the house.
