Stamped & Decorative Concrete

Stamped & Decorative Concrete built by Greg

Plain gray concrete does the job, but it doesn't always suit the house. If you want a patio that looks like flagstone, a walkway that matches stone columns or a fireplace chimney, or an entry with a border that sets it apart, stamped and decorative concrete gets you there without the gaps, weeds and loose pavers. The catch is that decorative work leaves less room for mistakes. Color, pattern, timing and sealing all have to be right, and a stamped surface that is poorly sealed in this climate turns slick and green within a few seasons.

Greg Myers Construction pours stamped, colored and exposed aggregate concrete for patios, front walks, entries and steps around Rainier, Olympia, Lacey and Yelm. Greg builds the base the same way he would for a shop slab, then chooses the pattern and color with you so it fits the house, whether that's a lodge-style home with stone and heavy timber or a simple rambler. Every decorative job is sealed when it's done, and he'll explain how often to reseal so the color holds and the surface keeps its grip in the rain.

Questions

Stamped & Decorative Concrete FAQs

Is stamped concrete slippery in the rain?

It can be if it's finished with a glossy sealer alone. For outdoor areas here Greg can add a slip-resistant grit to the sealer and can suggest exposed aggregate or a broom border on steps and slopes, where traction matters most. Keeping the surface sealed also slows the moss and algae that make any concrete slick in a damp climate.

Does stamped concrete cost more than plain concrete?

Yes. Color, stamping labor and sealing add to the job compared with a broom finish. The pattern, the number of colors, the size and shape of the area and any steps or borders all play into the price. Greg's estimate is free, and he can also price a plain field with a decorative border as a middle option.

How often does stamped concrete need resealing?

It depends on sun, traffic and how wet the spot stays, so one schedule doesn't fit every patio. Reseal when the color starts to look dull or water stops beading on the surface. Greg will show you what to watch for when the job is finished.

Can you stamp my existing concrete?

Stamping happens in fresh concrete, so an existing slab can't be stamped as it is. If your current patio is sound, Greg can add a new stamped section or border alongside it. If it's cracked or settling, he'll remove it and pour new on a proper base.

What's the difference between stamped concrete and exposed aggregate?

Stamped concrete is pressed with texture mats to look like stone, slate or wood. Exposed aggregate has the surface paste washed away to reveal the gravel in the mix, which gives a pebbled look with natural grip. Both can be colored and sealed, and they're often combined, like an aggregate walk with a stamped border.
