Concrete Work

Concrete Work built by Greg

Everything you build sits on concrete, so a bad pour stays with you for as long as you own the place. A shop floor that cracks down the middle, a garage slab that drops at the door, a driveway that holds a puddle all winter. Most of those problems trace back to the ground and the prep, not the concrete itself. Around Rainier and the rest of Western Washington that means clay and glacial till, a high water table on plenty of lots, and months of rain to plan around before anything gets poured.

Greg Myers Construction is a licensed, bonded and insured general contractor in Rainier, and its Google profile lists the business as Concrete Slab Foundation Specialists. Slabs and foundations are the core of the concrete side: the slab floors and foundations under the barn homes, pole barns, shops and houses Greg builds, like the big open barn interior with exposed trusses sitting on a concrete slab floor in his photos. Greg also takes on driveways, patios, walkways, steps, repairs and garage floor coatings as standalone jobs, and you deal with him directly from the estimate to the cleanup.

What's included

Concrete Work: what's included

  • 01

    Slab Foundations & Shop Floors

Reinforced slabs for barns, shops, garages and barndominiums, set on a compacted base with a vapor barrier. This is the work Greg's Google profile is built around.

  • 02

    Foundations & Footings

Footings, stem walls and crawlspace foundations for new homes, additions and ADUs, formed and poured to the approved plans.

  • 03

    Driveways & Garage Aprons

New concrete driveways, aprons where a gravel drive meets the garage, and tear-out and replacement of old, broken drives.

  • 04

    Patios, Walkways & Steps

Backyard patios, front walks and entry steps, each sloped so rain runs away from the house instead of toward it.

  • 05

    Stamped & Decorative Finishes

Stamped patterns, color and exposed aggregate for patios and walks when a plain broom finish isn't the look you want.

  • 06

    Repair, Leveling & Epoxy Floors

Crack repair, sunken slab fixes, foundation repair and coated garage floors for the concrete you already have.

Ideas for your project

Concrete Work: what it can look like

  • Stamped concrete surface in a fan-pattern cobblestone design
  • Concrete front patio with two chairs beside a low brick wall and a concrete walkway
  • Crew leveling a freshly poured concrete slab with a power screed
  • Stamped concrete patio in an ashlar slate pattern, wet from rain, with two patio chairs
  • New stamped concrete walkway in a cobblestone pattern with a darker border, leading to a front porch
  • New stamped concrete slab in a random stone pattern with darker joints

How it works

How a concrete job works

  1. 1

    Free On-Site Estimate

Greg walks the site with you, looks at access, soil and drainage, and talks through what the concrete has to carry.

  2. 2

    Permits, Layout & Excavation

He pulls any permits the job needs, digs out to firm ground and builds a compacted gravel base sized for the work.

  3. 3

    Forms, Steel & Pour

Forms are set to grade, reinforcement goes in, and the pour is scheduled around the forecast rather than in spite of it.

  4. 4

    Finish, Cure & Cleanup

The surface is finished for its use, control joints are cut, the concrete is protected while it cures, and the site is left clean.

Questions

Concrete Work FAQs

What kind of concrete work does Greg do most?

Slabs and foundations. The Google profile lists the business as Concrete Slab Foundation Specialists, and much of Greg's concrete goes under barns, shops, garages and homes. He also pours driveways, patios, walkways and steps and handles repairs and garage floor coatings.

Can concrete be poured during a Western Washington winter?

Yes, with planning. Rain and cold slow curing and can ruin a fresh surface, so pours are timed around the forecast and the concrete is covered and protected until it sets. The bigger risk here is usually the ground, since wet clay and poorly drained sites need the right base and drainage in any season.

How much does a concrete job cost?

It depends on the size and thickness of the pour, how much digging and base rock the site needs, truck or pump access, reinforcement and the finish. Greg buys materials with big company buying power and keeps a small company markup and overhead. A free on-site estimate gives you a real number for your project.

Do you only do concrete as part of your own buildings?

No. Greg takes on standalone concrete jobs too, from a single pad for a hot tub or shed to a full driveway replacement. When the concrete is part of a bigger build like a shop or an ADU, he can take on the whole project.

Where do you pour concrete?

Within 100 miles of Rainier. That covers Thurston, Lewis, Pierce, Mason, Grays Harbor, Kitsap, King, Cowlitz and Clark counties, with towns like Olympia, Yelm, Centralia, Tacoma, Shelton and Longview in between.
