Decks in Tenino

Looking for a deck builder in Tenino? Greg Myers Construction is based in Rainier, about 10 miles away, and Tenino is part of Greg's regular service area. He handles decks, composite decks, deck stairs and covered decks.

Out here on the South Sound prairies a lot of the work is on acreage — barns, shops, barndominiums and new homes on open ground, where the gravelly soil drains well but the wind comes across with nothing to stop it. Whatever the reason, a new deck has to be framed right, flashed where it meets the house and built from materials that can take wet winter after wet winter.

One customer called Greg “a man of integrity.” Another wrote that he “does excellent work.”

Decks around Tenino

Greg works all over Tenino — near Tenino Downtown Historic District, Lemon Hill and Mud Lake — and throughout Thurston County.

Tenino is the old sandstone-quarry town in south Thurston County, on State Route 507 west of Rainier. Tenino is about 10 miles west of our base in Rainier, well inside our 100-mile service area.

Western Washington buildings fight water more than anything — months of rain, moss on the roof, rot wherever wood stays wet, and soils that hold moisture. A building lasts when it sits on a proper foundation with drainage around it, is wrapped and flashed right, and is built to dry out.

    Free on-site estimate

Greg checks the yard, the view and the grade, sees where the deck will attach, and asks how you'll use it.

  2. 2

    Design and permit

We settle size, shape, materials, stairs and railings, then get the deck permit where one is required.

  3. 3

Questions

Decks in Tenino: FAQs

Do you do decks in Tenino, WA?

Yes. Tenino is about 10 miles west of our base in Rainier, well inside our 100-mile service area. Greg handles decks, composite decks, deck stairs and covered decks there, and the estimate is free.

Do I need a permit for decks in Tenino?

It depends on the project. When one is needed, Greg pulls the permit from the City of Tenino's building department and builds to whatever the permit and inspection require.

Can you put a roof over my deck?

Yes. A covered deck lets you use it through the rainy months. We frame the roof on posts with their own footings, tie it into the house or keep it freestanding, and match the roofing to your home. The covered balcony on timber posts in Greg's photos is one example.

Wood or composite: which holds up better in Western Washington?

Both can work well. Composite resists rot and doesn't need staining, though it can get slick with moss in shady spots if it isn't cleaned. Wood costs less up front and looks natural but needs regular sealing to handle our wet winters. Either way, the framing underneath is treated wood, so we space and flash it so it can dry out between storms.

How much does a new deck cost?

Size, height off the ground, decking material, railing style, stairs and any built-ins drive most of the price. A ground-level deck on a flat yard costs less than a second-story deck with a long run of stairs. Greg gives a free estimate on site and can price wood and composite side by side.

Can you repair my deck, or does it need replacing?

It depends on the framing. If the joists, beams and posts are sound, we can often replace just the boards, stairs or railings. If there is rot in the structure or where the deck attaches to the house, replacement is usually the safer call, and Greg will tell you which during the estimate.
