Barndominiums in Puyallup

Looking for a barndominium builder in Puyallup? Greg Myers Construction is based in Rainier, about 29 miles away, and Puyallup is part of Greg's regular service area. He handles barndominiums, barn homes and shop houses.

In the older neighborhoods here, a lot of the work is remodels, additions, ADUs and decks on tight lots, built to the city's permit and inspection schedule. It needs a real foundation, insulation and vapor control that handle our wet winters, good windows and proper finish work, not a steel shell with a room framed inside it.

One customer called Greg “a man of integrity.” Another wrote that he “does excellent work.”

Barndominiums around Puyallup

Greg works all over Puyallup — near Pioneer Park, Wildwood Park and Karshner Museum and out by White River — and throughout Pierce County.

Puyallup sits in the Puyallup River valley in Pierce County, home of the Washington State Fair. Puyallup is about 29 miles northeast of our base in Rainier, well inside our 100-mile service area.

Western Washington buildings fight water more than anything — months of rain, moss on the roof, rot wherever wood stays wet, and soils that hold moisture. A building lasts when it sits on a proper foundation with drainage around it, is wrapped and flashed right, and is built to dry out.

Questions

Barndominiums in Puyallup: FAQs

Do you do barndominiums in Puyallup, WA?

Yes. Puyallup is about 29 miles northeast of our base in Rainier, well inside our 100-mile service area. Greg handles barndominiums, barn homes and shop houses there, and the estimate is free.

Do I need a permit for barndominiums in Puyallup?

It depends on the project. When one is needed, Greg pulls the permit from the City of Puyallup's building department and builds to whatever the permit and inspection require.

Is a barndominium permitted like a regular house?

Yes. A barndominium you live in is permitted and inspected as a home through the county or city it sits in. Greg handles the plans, the application and the inspections as part of the job. If your land has wetlands, a steep slope or a well and septic to work around, we account for that in the site plan early.

Can you build a barndominium on rural land outside town?

Yes. Greg builds within 100 miles of Rainier, including rural parts of Thurston, Lewis, Pierce, Mason and Grays Harbor counties. Open ground often means more wind and a longer access road, so we look at both during the free estimate and build for them.

How do you build a barndominium for Western Washington weather?

Moisture control comes first. We set the building on a well-drained slab with a vapor barrier under the concrete, and we detail the roof and walls so rain and condensation stay out. A metal roof needs the right underlayment and ventilation here, or it drips inside on cold mornings. Deep overhangs and covered porches also keep doors and siding drier through a long wet winter.

How much does a barndominium cost to build?

It depends on the size, how much of the building is finished living space versus shop, the foundation your soil calls for and the finishes you pick inside. Site work on acreage, like clearing or a long driveway, also moves the number. Greg gives a free estimate after seeing the land and your plan, so you get a price for your building rather than a guess.
