Fencing in Puyallup

People in Puyallup call Greg for wood privacy fences, farm and horse fencing and gates. He's a licensed, bonded and insured general contractor out of Rainier, about 29 miles away, and every Puyallup job starts with a free estimate.

In the older neighborhoods here, a lot of the work is remodels, additions, ADUs and decks on tight lots, built to the city's permit and inspection schedule. Whether you are fencing a backyard in Lacey or several acres of pasture outside Rochester, the real work happens below grade, where nobody looks until a section blows over in a winter storm.

One customer called Greg “a man of integrity.” Another wrote that he “does excellent work.”

What's included

Fencing we do in Puyallup

  • 01

    Wood privacy fences

Cedar or treated board fences for backyards, with a top cap and trim option for a finished look along the street.

  • 02

    Horse and livestock fencing

Board fence, woven wire and field fence for horses, cattle, goats and sheep, built tight and safe for the animals inside it.

  • 03

    Walk, drive and farm gates

Gates hung on heavy posts so they swing true and latch for years instead of sagging into the dirt.

  • 04

    Fence line clearing

Brush, blackberries and old wire cleared out so the new line runs straight and you can reach it for upkeep.

  • 05

    Old fence removal

We pull the old boards, wire and posts, including the concrete chunks around them, and haul everything away before the new fence goes in.

  • 06

    Fencing with a new build

When Greg builds your home, barn or shop, the fencing and gates can be scheduled as part of the same project.

Pierce County, WA

Fencing around Puyallup

Greg works all over Puyallup — near Pioneer Park, Wildwood Park and Karshner Museum and out by White River — and throughout Pierce County.

Puyallup sits in the Puyallup River valley in Pierce County, home of the Washington State Fair. Puyallup is about 29 miles northeast of our base in Rainier, well inside our 100-mile service area.

Western Washington buildings fight water more than anything — months of rain, moss on the roof, rot wherever wood stays wet, and soils that hold moisture. A building lasts when it sits on a proper foundation with drainage around it, is wrapped and flashed right, and is built to dry out.

How it works

How your Puyallup fence job works

  1. 1

    Free on-site estimate

Greg walks the line with you, looks at slope, soil and wet spots, and talks through height, style and where the gates should go.

  2. 2

    Layout

We mark the line from your survey pins or agreed corners and confirm post spacing and gate openings before anything is dug.

  3. 3

    Posts first

Holes are dug and posts are set plumb with drain gravel at the bottom and concrete or tamped backfill to suit the soil.

  4. 4

    Rails, boards and gates

Rails, boards or wire go up, gates are hung and adjusted, and the work area is cleaned up before the final walk-through.

Questions

Fencing in Puyallup: FAQs

Do you do fencing in Puyallup, WA?

Yes. Puyallup is about 29 miles northeast of our base in Rainier, well inside our 100-mile service area. Greg handles wood privacy fences, farm and horse fencing and gates there, and the estimate is free.

Do I need a permit for fencing in Puyallup?

It depends on the project. When one is needed, Greg pulls the permit from the City of Puyallup's building department and builds to whatever the permit and inspection require.

Do you build fences for horses and livestock?

Yes. Horse fencing needs to be easy to see and free of anything that can catch a hoof or a halter, so board fence or no-climb woven wire on solid posts is common. For goats, sheep or cattle, the wire, height and post spacing change with the animal, and Greg builds to what you keep.

How do you know where my property line is?

Greg lays out the fence from your survey pins or a recorded survey and keeps it on your side of the line unless you and your neighbor agree otherwise. If the pins are missing, he will tell you before any posts go in, so nothing is built on a guess.

How do you keep fence posts from rotting in Western Washington?

By keeping water away from the wood. Greg uses ground-contact rated posts, puts gravel under each one so water drains instead of pooling, and crowns the top of the concrete so rain runs off rather than sitting against the post. In heavy clay or a soggy low spot, posts may go deeper or get a different backfill so they don't heave or lean.

How much does a new fence cost?

The price comes down to the total length, the height, the material, how many gates you need, and how much clearing or old fence removal comes first. Slopes and rocky ground also add digging time. Greg's estimates are free and done on site, so the number reflects your actual fence line.
